Native to Southeast Asia, the rambutan fruit is related to edible tropical fruits like the lychee and longan. The leathery skin is reddish in color, covered with fleshy pliable spines. The fruit is round to oval with a single seed, and is translucent white with a sweet, mildly acidic flavor. The name rambutan is derived from the Malay word 'rambut' meaning 'hair'. This design is for a bon voyage and best wishes for someone who is seconded to work in Malaysia. The soft spines are red with a touch of green; in this sketch they are colored in light red/pink for visibility.
