A contemplative nun, St Teresa of Avila was an active reformer in the Roman Catholic Church. As a woman "for God," she was devoted to prayer, discipline, and compassion. Her feast day is celebrated in October. The front image includes a modified version of a public domain photo of a much larger full-body painting by Frenchman François Gérard (1779-1837).
