FYI: St. Francis of Assisi is credited with staging the first Nativity scene in 1223 after receiving permission from Pope Honorius III. The first Nativity scene was displayed in a cave just outside Greccio, presenting a wax figure of the infant Jesus, costume-clad actors for Mary and Joseph and a live donkey and ox.
