This military tradition was started in 1917 during World War I by Army Captain Robert Queissner. He wanted to signify his sons' service in the war. There are strict regulations regarding this flag in that ONLY direct family members are allowed to display the symbology. This card is a way to thank active duty members and their families who are serving. The flag evolved as we lost military members. A gold star represents those who have been lost. This is a most appropriate card to send a family of a fallen military member to say thank you.
