Pongal is an Indian harvest festival dedicated to the Sun. It is a four-day festival which usually falls between 14th and 17th of January. The horns of oxen and buffaloes are painted as a form of decoration. The floors of homes are decorated with patterns (kolam) drawn using rice flour. Sugar cane, forming part of the harvest, are collected along with seasonal fruits and flowers. This design illustrates sugar cane plants, the decorated horns of the oxen, and kolams.
