Some elements by Scrappin Doodles. Nobody knows who invented the fire hydrant because the building holding the patent burned down in 1836. They come in many different colors. But it's not for decoration. These colors have an important meaning for firefighters. he first and most visible are the fire hydrants along the streets. They are where the fire departments connect to the water supply system. Their location is generally selected by the local fire department. The spacing between the hydrants usually ranges from 500 to 1000 feet.
