Our dogs are such a huge part of our lives and give us unconditional love. Losing them is one of the hardest things we go through. I lost my Australian Shepherd almost 4 years ago. She lived to be almost 17 years old in spite of seizures and arthritis, out of sheer will and determination. It was a perfect night when I took this photo. The sunset was incredible with so many shades of gold and blue, and a lab just happened to be running in the surf at just the right spot. The waves had receded to reflect the colors on the sand. I shot the photo at Butterfly Beach in Santa Barbara.
