In common raccoons, the color of the fur can vary from silvery to blonde, brown, or black shades. In 1926, US President Calvin Coolidge received a raccoon to be eaten for Thanksgiving. Coolidge refused to have it killed or eaten, however. Instead, they adopted it as a pet raccoon.
